According to the Florida travel guide, there were about 2,000 automobile accidents in Florida that were caused by distracted drivers. About 20% of those drivers were distracted by driving while talking on a cell phone. Most places in the world prohibit driving while talking on a cell phone unless drivers use headsets. Florida attempted to ban driving while talking on a cell phone but the effort was unsuccessful.
In 2001, Miami Dade became the first county in Florida to restrict driving while talking on a cell phone. Violators of this law can face a fine of $250. Read the Miami city guide to learn about other driving regulations.
