Both Alaska and Hawaii were fighting to get accepted as part of the United States’ union for decades before they made it. In 1959, the two states were finally accepted, due to their strategic locations in World War II. Located about 3,000 miles apart, the two states are opposite in so many ways. Since their welcome into the union, the states have grown and excelled and even become the envy of many of the original 48 states. Today, travelers can find Alaska vacation rentals and Hawaii vacation rentals for their trip to either state.
Alaska was first in joining the United States. People have a hard time comprehending how huge Alaska is at 370 million acres. Being so large, Alaska has very diverse areas. Contrary to popular belief, it is not all covered in snow. Just like Hawaii, Alaska boasts seashores and whale-watching. It has the largest state park system measuring 3.2 million acres and it claims 17 National Park System parks, preserves and monuments. Stay in affordable Alaska vacation rentals in any of the state’s versatile regions. Alaska features a collection of natural wonders including the nation’s highest mountain, great fishing, Glacier Bay, icebergs and glaciers. In the past 5 decades, Alaska’s population has tripled to 686,000. Alaska vacation rentals are a more affordable alternative to hotels.
The are just 3,000 miles south. In the past five decades, Hawaii’s population has more than doubled to almost 1.3 million. Hawaii has found itself desperate for more tourists to visit the beautiful islands. The rise in airfares and the absence of one key cruise ship has really hurt the tourism industry. The number of arrivals has dropped 6.4 percent (549,017 people) and expenditures are down $26.7 million.
As a result, the cost of Hawaii vacation rentals has decreased to try and jumpstart the industry again. The idea is that if the Hawaii vacation rentals costs are low enough, the average tourist will overlook the above average ticket costs because they cancel each other out to the same total amount they would have spent if tickets were less and the rentals were higher. Ideally this makes sense, but the tourist has to make it past the online ticketing websites to see the cost of the accommodations.
The average tourist looking for a holiday destination will search for flight costs before accommodation costs. Unless Hawaii vacation rentals makes the public
aware of the decrease in cost, the intended effect of the reduction will not be felt.

Maui recently held its 10th annual Cirque de Cinema film festival which drew an additional 7,500 people to the beautiful resort destination. The event has become such a success for a number of reasons, but the most obvious of those reasons is that the screening of films takes place outdoors on the beach, under the stars, with your bare feet in the sand. The event begins with an astronomer giving you a tour of the night sky and reminding you how lucky you are to be on this planet traveling through space at 1000 mph. Once the crowd is hushed, the films begin.
The event has grown in the past few years just as the quality of films has improved. Once the event proved it was a legitimate addition to the both the world of film and Maui as a tourist destination, tourists and film producers alike were more open to participating.
At one point in the festivals past there was a particular hotel for the attendees, but now the mass of people has had to find other accommodations. A growing trend that fits with the earthy vibe of the festival is Maui vacation home rentals rather than staying in a hotel. This creates more of a local feeling for the traveler and also gives them more privacy. Maui vacation home rentals is definitely the rout of any celebrities attending the festival or featured in any of the films.
All in all, the film festival is a great step forward for both Maui tourism and the indie film industry.
