The crowded city of New York is probably the most urban on the planet. Like most large US cities, New York has massive traffic congestion problems. Monthly garage rental fees can be higher than those for apartments in other US cities. It is estimated that 80% of people in Manhattan do not own a car. Driving in Manhattan is tough but parking is the real nightmare.

About 55 % of New Yorkers use public transportation in New York City (subway or buses), another large portion travel by foot, bike or by taxi. People living in suburbs use the efficient train system to avoid the horrendous street traffic. Rid yourself of any signs of being a tourist in an unfamiliar environment; New York vacation rentals help blend in as they tend to be in residential condo buildings. Make sure all your valuables you are holding are protected and secure. If you are wearing flashy jewelry, try to conceal them (i.e. turning rings so that gems face your palm or tucking necklace in your shirt).
