Where to Find Movies in English in Paris

The French Lumiere brothers invented the first movie, which, at the time, was called a “moving picture”. The French’s love of movies began then and has continued ever since, evolving into one of the favorite things to do in Paris. The French are the leading film producers in Europe. Their movies are often categorized as author movies (deeper and less commercial than Hollywood productions).

Paris is filled to the rim with movie theaters in order to satisfy the demand of locals who go to the movies at least once a week among other things to do in Paris. Parisians like authenticity and prefer to see movies in their original language even if that language is not French (such as subtitled English movies in Paris). Because of this, English speaking visitors get things to do in Paris with opportunities to see English movies in Paris. Movies shown in languages other than French (i.e. English movies in Paris) are tagged with the Acronym V.O., meaning Version orginiale (original version).

Most Paris store hours are from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Monday through Saturday. Most stores are closed on Sundays with a few exceptions. Sometimes smaller stores, specifically those in residential districts, are closed on Mondays. Most Paris store hours are open during lunch time for shopping in Paris unlike Italy or Spain. On Thursdays, department stores are often open late (until 10:00 PM) for shopping in Paris.

Shopping in Paris during holidays such as Christmas or other special events in Paris is easier as Paris store hours are lengthened. Paris store hours are the longest during the winter and summer sales months (January and June).

Walk Inside Picasso’s Provence Château

Aug 03

Posted: under Destinations and Places, France.
Tags: , , , , ,

Pablo Picasso moved to Provence, France in 1959 while he was in his 70s. Sure, he moved there in part to escape life in the public eye in Cannes  (Cannes vacation rentals), but most of all, he wanted to be closer to Ste. Victoire, a mountain near Aix-en-Provence that was the subject of more than 40 paintings by Paul Cezanne. Picasso described Cezanne as his “one and only master.”

Both Picasso and Cezanne shared a fascination with shifting perspectives. Cezanne often painted the same subject but from different angles and lights. Picasso played with perspective in his cubist works. The connection is examined at great depth at the Picasso-Cezanne show at the Musee Granet in Aix-en-Provence.

Picasso moved into the 13th-century Château de vauvenargues at the base of the mountain with Jacqueline Roque, his lover-turned-wife until 1961. The estate has been off limits to the public ever since. Now, curious fans can finally get a peek inside until September 27th. Picasso’s brushes and paints lie around the studio. Outside, in the yard, the couple’s graves sit side-by-side. Picasso’s tombstone is topped with his 1933 sculpture, Woman With a Vase. Advance ticket reservations are sold out but people may purchase same-day tickets each morning starting at 8:30AM at the Hotel de Valori in Aix-en-Provence.

Find any last minute France vacation rentals or France holiday homes nearby so that you may enjoy Picasso’s Château as well as the beautiful region.

Best Time to Visit Paris - Paris Holiday Rentals

Jul 29

Posted: under Destinations and Places, Paris.
Tags: , , , ,

The best time to visit Paris is when the weather is warm which is from May to September. During this time, tourists flood Paris and visit the many museums and monuments. Being peak season and the best time to visit Paris, Paris hotel rooms and Paris holiday rentals are expensive and sometimes difficult to book.

The Christmas holiday season is also a best time to visit Paris. The streets of Paris are dressed with holiday lights and decorations. Luxury Parisian boutiques show off with beautiful spectacles of decoration for the viewing pleasure of Parisians and Paris visitors.

Visiting Paris during off season is not a bad idea for visitors looking for good deals and who want to avoid long queues in Paris monuments and museums. If you absolutely want to book Paris holiday rentals during peak season, just make sure that you make arrangements well in advance.

If you wait too long, booking a more expensive Paris hotel room might be easier than booking Paris holiday rentals which are often reserved at least 6 months in advance.
