This is a charming town that has fantastic wine, shopping and castle. It is the site of Burg Rheinfels, the largest castle ruin on the Rhine. A short walk up to the castle rewards you with views of the vineyards and river below, as well as access to several hiking trails. If you are not up for a hike, you can easily buy a 1-way or round-trip ticket to board a trackless train that travels through the town and up to the castle.
