Birmingham is a city and metropolitan borough in the West Midlands, England. Birmingham is the largest of England's core cities, and is often considered to be the second city of the United Kingdom. The City of Birmingham has a population of 1,006,500. It forms part of the larger West Midlands metropolis, which has a population of 2,284,093 and includes several neighboring towns and cities, such as Solihull, Wolver Hampton and the towns of the Black Country. The region welcomes thousands of travelers all year long, which is why they have developed a vast lodging infrastructure which includes accommodations such as Birmingham vacation rentals, hotels, Birmingham short term rentals and Bed & Breakfasts. The city's reputation was forged as a powerhouse of the Industrial Revolution in Britain, a fact which led to Birmingham being known as "the workshop of the world" or the "city of a thousand trades".
People from Birmingham are known as 'Brummies', a term derived from the city's nickname of Brum. This comes in turn from the city's dialect name, Brummagem, which is derived from one of the city's earlier names, 'Bromwicham'. There is a distinctive Brummie dialect and accent, both of which differ from those of the adjacent Black Country. Visitors have a variety of lodging options to choose from including Birmingham home rentals, Birmingham holiday rentals or Birmingham vacation rentals.
Wales, Birmingham, the UK's second city. It's a city of mixed cultures, creeds and lifestyles and has recently become the fashionable place for tourists to set up a business or to hold a conference. But it still retains great pride in being a city built on industry. The shift to a post-manufacturing economy is symbolized by the new Convention Centre and by the enormous National Exhibition Centre on the outskirts, while Birmingham's cultural initiatives to entice a division of the Royal Ballet to take up residence here, and building a fabulous new concert hall for the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra are first rate. Nonetheless, there is no pretending that Birmingham is packed with interesting sights - it isn't. However, its first-rate restaurant scene and nightlife are well worth a day or two at least.
